Hitachi Trimmer CG22EASSLP Review
I’ve always used commercial grade, gas powered, straight shaft weed eaters. So I was eager to try out the Hitachi CG22EASSLP grass trimmer to see how it held up compared to the Stihl and Shindaiwa models I’ve grown accustomed to.
The reviews I read online raved about the Hitachi trimmer. Therefore, I had pretty high expectations of what the weed eater could do. Also, since this unit is one of the higher priced ones on the market, you hope the customer gets what they pay for.

My Hitachi Trimmer Review:
I’ve never been a big fan of assembling new products. So I was pleased to see that the only assembly required with the Hitachi CG22EASSLP was to attach the handle and string guard. I was also happy to see that the trimmer came with safety glasses (this should be mandatory with all trimmers).
After I got those on, I poured some mix gas in the tank and went to start it. I got it started on the fourth pull. So far so good.
The lawn I decided to try it out on for the first time was overgrown. It had not been mowed in a few weeks and the edging and trimming was a thick mess. A great place to start, I thought.
I finished the job in 30 minutes and came back impressed with the weed eater. For starters it was comfortable to hold and well balanced. There was also little vibration, which to me, is very important if you are going to be using the trimmer for a long time.
The power exceeded my expectations. It whipped through tall grass and weeds. And the overgrown edge was no match. The safety glasses definitely came in handy though, since plenty of debris was flying everywhere.
I thought the line feed worked well. I always read weed eater reviews online about all different models where people complain about the line feed. Most of the time though, it’s an error or inexperience by the user. I also used the Tanaka .095 trimmer line which I like a lot.
The one small complaint I had about the trimmer was the location of the on/off switch. A couple of times, I inadvertently turned off the trimmer because I hit the switch. No major problem though. I will just slightly adjust my holding style.
One mistake I see homeowners make over and over is buying cheap weed eaters. They either don’t work well or quit working altogether. The owner gets mad, throws it away or spends more money trying to repair it, writes a bad review… and then, they repeat the process again the next year.
Do yourself a favor and buy a quality unit like the Hitachi CG22EASSLP grass trimmer. This commercial grade trimmer is built to last and has a 7 year consumer warranty to back that up. Sure it cost more money up front. But it will ultimately save you more money and you will be much more satisfied with the performance.
